Johannes Vermeer, a well known renaissance painter until today. Alongside with his most known painting, “The girl with a pearl earring”
While the painting itself is entirely based off open interpretation, its depiction of a young woman in exotic dress, the pearl earring as a symbol of status and wealth, and the enigmatic gaze of the subject. The painting also explores themes of cultural exchange and the representation of women in 17th-century Dutch art.
